Ireland Photos

Here are some photographs taken by either myself or my parents while we where in Ireland in the summer of 2002

Harbourne Pub located in Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow, Ireland

Owned and operated by Ann Harbourne

Harbourne House located in Simonstown, Co. Kildare, Ireland

Still occupied by the Harbourne's. This house is where Jeffrey and Elizabeth (Mulhall) had their children, Jeffrey, George, John & Thomas. Who later emigrated to Canada.

Notice how the middle window is blocked out.  In 1697, a window tax was enacted. Homeowners were taxed a certain amount for each window of their home. With this, we can estimate the date of this house to be approximately early to mid 1700's in origin.

Cistern pump at the home still occupied by the Harbourne's since approximately mid to late 1700's

This is the front entry door...notice the incredible thickness ( about 3 inches thick)

Doors were made this thick at this time for at times of war, the British were known to have their horses back up and kick the doors in the check for enemies.  This door also has a 3" x 3" bolt that latches inside from one side of the interior cement to the other.  Virtually impossible to bust in.

Inside view of entry door.

Notice the bolt bar going from side to side and the size of the key hole.

This used to be a beautiful garden with fruit trees.
